frequently asked questions

How can I get more involved in the garden?

  • Join our weekly work parties where anyone can come to volunteer, meet new people, and maybe pick up some new skills. Absolutely no experience is needed! Check our Instagram for current work party times, as they tend to change each semester

  • Join our volunteer email list to get emails regarding volunteer opportunities! Use our contact us page to ask to be added.

  • Work with us! Check our website, Instagram, and the UVSS job board for any job openings.

  • Join our board meetings! Keep an eye on our social media and join us as we discuss the garden and what's coming next.

  • Become a board member! Check out our link here for more info.

  • Join the CCG Discord, where we have channels for volunteer teams where you can coordinate with others to come and help out in the garden!

What are the work parties like?

Each one is a little different, and they're usually really chill!

  • First we do a land acknowledgment, a round of introductions, and a check-in question.

  • Then we see what's on the list and split into small groups to tackle tasks, depending on what needs doing. This could be anything like pruning, harvesting, planting, raking, or more!

  • As a general rule we go for 2 hours, but often end earlier if we've been working hard, if we finish early, or if we're losing sunlight/warmth! The party ends with a healthy snack for everyone who helped out!

How can I rent out a plot at the garden?

Garden plots are available for students, staff, and faculty of UVic. The fee is $30 for a year. You'll need to sign a membership agreement and commit to helping out with communal tasks around the garden that everyone helps out with! Check out more info and sign up for our waitlist here.

Where is the garden?

We're located at 2100 Mckenzie Ave, Victoria BC. You can search "UVic Campus Community Garden" on google maps, or check out our detailed directions here.

What are the hours?

The garden is locked from dusk 'til dawn. Otherwise, as long as a plot renter or staff member is inside, it's unlocked and open! Anyone is welcome to go in and walk around, or just hang out and catch some sun!
